Cisco Systems, Inc. was founded in 1984 and employs more than 66,000 employees worldwide.
Cisco began as an effort to connect husband and wife Len Bosack and Sandy Lerner who both worked for Stanford University, but could not email each other since they worked in different buildings that were limited by the shortcomings of current technological advancements. They aimed to solve the challenge of disparate local area protocols, and soon created the multi-protocol router.
Since then Cisco has built an intelligent network to connect the unconnected that continues to change the way their customers, employees, investors and ecosystem partners live and learn. Cisco is headquartered in San Jose, California, and is now the worldwide leader in networking technology – helping people to connect, communicate and collaborate.
