Eindhoven is the fifth-largest city of the Netherlands, located in the province of North Brabant in the south of the Netherlands. Eindhoven is well known for modern art, design and technology. The local government, industry and the Eindhoven University of Technology cooperate in the Brainport Region Eindhoven initiative to develop the local knowledge economy. The city has long been a center of cooperation between research institutes and industry, due to the presence of high-tech industry in the region, such as: Philips, ASML, DAF, FEI Company, VDL Groep, NXP, and many others. In 2011, the Intelligent Community Forum named Eindhoven the world’s Intelligent Community of the Year.
